Converting 1930′s garage to kitchen but I need to take out 8 metre wall which supports pitched roof.  I don’t want any posts within the 8 metre space but can I support such a span by building load bearing pillars externally and placing massive RSJ ?  I will appoint a Structural Engineer but want to know what I can and can’t do first as am sick of being told “rubbish”!  thanks.
