If you are female and live in the Bristol area, how about looking at learning or improving a practical skill?

The Bristol Women’s Workshop runs courses in woodwork and upholstery in groups of no larger than 8 students, so everyone benefits from one-to-one help. Beginners are always welcome and there are daytime and evening foundation courses in woodwork where you can learn to make a bookcase, a small box and a mirror. Having completed the foundation course, you can move on to making things such as coffee tables, blanket boxes and cabinets. There is a course in Driftwood Construction and also an evening course in Upholstery where you can take your own item or buy something there to work on.

The Bristol Women’s Workshop, based in Totterdown, is run by Anne Harding, who has been running the workshop since 1981. For further information, take a look at www.bristolwomensworkshop.org.uk¬†or look around in your local area for courses in woodworking or DIY.
