The DIY retailer has been in the news again this week after independent DIY retailers complained that social housing tenants in certain areas of the UK had been given vouchers which were only valid to be used in B&Q stores.

The schemes are run to encourage tenants to do their own DIY but smaller retailers are up in arms in areas such as Manchester, Leeds, Stoke on Trent, South Tyneside, Kirklees and Swansea, as they have been left out of the equation.

This could, and is, affecting the independant retailers’ businesses and a meeting to discuss the situation in South Shields should have taken place yesterday. We will wait to hear on any developments and hope these schemes can be opened up to include all relevant DIY stores in the  regions concerned.
