DIY Doctor is working with students at the University of Nottingham to complete a Nationwide survey to find out how people collect new skills for DIY Jobs they want to undertake.

All answers will be kept strictly confidential and the survey should take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. You could even win a gift voucher!!

Surveys like this help providers like us to give you the information and advice you are looking for. The more details we can give you about your projects, the better you can make them.

Just click through to the survey here if you would like to take part. Thank you!

A survey carried out in Ireland by the AA shows that most people would like to see basic DIY skills being taught in secondary schools.

They polled 11,000 people in Ireland and the results were that 90% were in favour of these sort of life skills being introduced to the curriculum, with only 2% being stongly against the idea.

The results also echoed reports in the media last year about the younger generations not having the level of DIY skills that their parents and grandparents have or had, and that these skills are no longer ‘handed down’ to children and grandchildren. Of those polled, 25% said they didn’t have a clue about DIY.

We are sure that the results of this survey would be similar if it were carried out in England, Wales and Scotland, and the DIY Doctor team think it would be a great idea for basic DIY skills to be introduced in schools so that kids learnt how to bleed a radiator, change a tap washer, unblock a sink, as well as how to tackle painting and decorating properly. Many people suffer a lack of confidence when it comes to DIY so by introducing it when people are young, in a learning environment is the way to go!

Congratulations to survey prize draw winner Ron Teder from Manchester. Ron was sent his prize of £200 of Screwfix vouchers when his name was picked from hundreds of completed surveys.

We contacted Ron immediately and we are very happy to publish his reply:

Dear DIY Doctor,

Thanks so much for the prize. You’ve got a really great website and I’m on it almost every weekend. I can’t even begin to work out how much money you have saved me over the last 5 years and now, with this prize, I’m even getting paid to save money.

Many shops and websites ask for feedback and surveys simply to get names and bombard people with offers, especially at Christmas but in the time I’ve been using DIY Doctor I can actually see that you listen to feedback and do something about it on the website.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

 Ron

Neweys Online, the online store for Newey & Eyre, a leading UK Electrical wholesaler have launched a UK wide survey questionnaire to gain key market knowledge on how the Solar PV boom will affect local electricians.

The research carried out by Neweys Online is due to be released in early 2012. Anyone can take part either by completing the online solar survey or asking in the nearest Newey and Eyre branch.

“The branch and online solar survey is a quick, very user friendly questionnaire which aims to generate a better understanding of what requirements really face smaller business to capitalise on the growing trends in domestic renewable energy installations.” Emma Gilbert from the Web team commented.

“There has been lots of focus on what opportunities the Solar PV market will bring for the UK economy as a whole but little research has been completed on how the smaller business are preparing for this growing segment of their market. It is also important that more information is given to the customer so they are fully informed when picking a Solar PV installer.”

The survey can be found on the following page http://bit.ly/onlinesolarsurvey along with full terms and conditions.

To thank people for their time Neweys Online are offering 5 £100 Next gift cards for all participates during the period of the 1st November 2011 to the 2nd December 2011.
