Bathroom1 New Projects Published

Following feedback from you, our users, we’ve moved back indoors for our most recent new projects.

The bathroom seemed to be the main focus of your feedback, so we have several new projects in this area.

If you are considering changing your lighting, then our guide to bathroom lighting will give you some hints tips and advice on the regulations around this.

We have also covered various methods of bathroom heating,  plus how to replace a damaged tile, changing a toilet seat and fitting a shaver point.

How to hang pictures and heavy mirrors are popular requests, so have a look at our projects on these too.

Do keep letting us know what else you would like to see on DIY Doctor – and what you think of these latest projects!

Of the many feedback emails we have received at DIY Doctor regarding our Desired Outcome Building Contract, this is a great example of the general feeling amongst homeowners:

‘For or all my “fears” and uncertainties I do applaud the fact that an organisation like’ DIY Doctor’ has taken a huge amount of work out of the business of preparing to take on a contractor for a [sizeable] building/DIY project and believe the greater majority of (aware) DIYers will find it a boon.’

‘…….I shall make a point of advising the people I know about the “Desired Outcome Contract” and hope they will, in turn, pass on the information. I hope too, in the future, when they have a decent sized project in mind they will use it to good effect.’

If you would like to read more about our Desired Outcome Building Contract you can request a copy which comes with accompanying notes.

As our page on Building Contracts states, if a builder is unwilling to sign a contract, don’t employ him! One of the biggest problems when it comes to having home improvements done is knowing how to avoid the Cowboys.

If you would like free quotes from reliable and insured tradespeople in your local area, go to our Find a Tradesman page.

We received this email yesterday and it made us smile:

“You saved me £130 pounds and I am so excited I changed the lock myself!  I love your site!!!

Thank you
Barbara”

Thanks Barbara – we are so pleased that you like the site and that you find it useful – and that we helped you save some money!

It’s good to hear from users of the DIY Doctor website, and you can always give us feedback, good and bad, as there are feedback boxes at the bottom of all our Project pages. We welcome all constructive comments – it’s the main way we know if we are doing things right, or wrong!

Our new project page on Building Contracts has received some great feedback, and the following comment from J. Kerr particularly caught our eye:

‘I have sat interested through reading all your information, and with 23 years experience in building, at last I’ve read something that makes sense and explains things exactally as they are. All Builders and clients should read this.’

The project page offers you the opportunity to email for our new ‘Desired Outcome Building Contract’ for FREE. The contract aims to benefit the homeowner and contractor by setting out what is expected from both parties when undertaking domestic projects, and we believe it is as good, if not better than the JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) which you have to pay for.

For further information, or to email for a copy of the contract, just go to the Building Contracts project.

I watched the program Watchdog on BBC last week regarding Crown paint - I recently painted a room using Dulux calico matt emulsion paint and experienced the same problems, the smell disappeared after a short time. Come on, whats the fuss? All paint smells.

I just wanted to let people know what great customer service I have recently received from LG Harris.

I have recently bought my first house, and had quite a lot of interior decorating to do, so had bought a set of five Harris finesse brushes. Unfortunately, on first use, one of the brushes started shedding bristles (obviously very annoying) and so I had to give up using that one.

I wrote a letter of complaint and returned the brush to Harris, and within a week I had received a letter back apologizing for the problem and giving reason why this very occasionally happens. It also stated that they would be sending me some replacement brushes seperately, which arrived the next day!

Prompt reply, great service, and restored my faith in Harris!

ceramic tap Project of the Day 07/07/09

Ceramic Tap

Todays most popular project was Ceramic Disc Taps:
Ceramic disc taps are designed to last a lifetime but unfortunately, particularly in hard water areas, they don’t and it can useful to know how they operate and how to service them. This project shows you how to dismantle and service the moving parts, and has clear photographs to help you.

Here are some of the comments we have received
:

User comment:
Very clear descriptive text. Finding a replacement cartridge, should cleaning not work, will not be easy I fear.

User comment:
Brilliant, really useful information on this type of tap.

User comment:
8 years seems to be the general age for problems

User comment:
This looks very useful. I have never seen these taps before, and I have a leaking one, so I’ll try this out.

User comment:
Have looked avidly for answers to my dripping tap problem. Your website is the most helpful. Thank You
