2 Bedroom Bungalow modernisation

I am looking for some advice/ideas on modernising my parents 2 bedroom bungalow. we have a budget of up to 15k. We was originally thinking of a loft conversion but seems like that would cost more in the region of 35k. So now we are looking to improve the living space that we already have, I was thinking perhaps downlighting throughout the property, replacing the existing door frames and redecorating the main bedroom (that used to be the living room)

Any advice/questions welcome, guess i could post photos of the current rooms and also a plan of the house if this helps.
