advice please, damp in MDF skirting

Post by lucysamantha » Fri Aug 08, 2008 4:08 pm

I have just about finished developing a property and i have green mould appearing on the MDF skirting......
Could this be that some of the MDF was stored in the house just after plastering and the damp has got into it? I bought the MDF about 3 - 4 months ago and the mould is just appearing now. Some MDF i bought from a different company is not mouldy, could it be that i have bought MDF that was already damp?I have a damp proof course so i dont think its rising damp.
Also is this wet rot or dry rot? How can i treat it, im thinking of ripping all the MDF skirting out and starting again.
The trouble is the carpets have been laid, will it spread to the carpets aswell?
questions, questions, help pleeeeease.
