Aqualisa 600 Cartridge replacement O Ring

Please help
Aqualisa 600 exosed head Cartridge replacement
I have just replaced the cartridge and the shower still drips - I couldn't get the old O ring out. So I now need to get out the old O ring that sits in the opening to the hot water flow. I have tried a crochet hook but the O ring is not loose it seems to be stuck/wedged in.

The shower is 11 years old Any ideas - can it be cut/gouged out. Or is it a new shower? If so any recommendations for a straight replacement?

A real B**gger to get out. Had another go and after half an hour got it out.

Crochet hook useless. I had a small flat head screwdriver in one hand and used it to press and stretch the O Ring until it revealed enough of it to pull it out with some long tweezers with a hook at one side (or i supposed a crochet hook would have done that bit of the job)
