bath water coming up through shower tray - plesae help!

by vikidivit » Thu Apr 15, 2010 2:34 pm

Hi there
I would be very grateful if any of you guys could help me out.

We are in process of fitting a new bathroom suite together with seperate shower cubicle.

(sink not yet fitted, pipework and waste done ready)

Problem one: When bath empties it gurgles and slurps terribly.

Problem two: We have just connected the waste pipe to the shower tray and found the shower waste to be full of water from the bath. After connection we filled the bath and found that water from the bath was flowing up through the shower drain hole.

There is only a shallow fall on waste pipe from the shower due to crossing a number of joists to get to soil stack.

I have looked on the forum and found others with similar problems were recommended non-return valves, but that they needed regular cleaning. As we are have vinyl fitted this is not possible.

Does anybody have any idea how we can cure these problems - please!

Thanks

Viki

vikidivit,
Replace the shallow trap on the shower with a HepVo trap but be careful to fit it up the right way.
Fit an air admitance valve in the pipework near to the bath waste - this should stop the gurgling.
end
