boiler noises

by foresterone » Fri Apr 16, 2010 8:07 pm

I have an Ideal icos HE 24 which screams and whistles on start up in the morning. I am sure this problem has come up before on the forum but I have been back about 8 pages and can`t see an answer, it is driving us mad and wakes everyone up in the house!

most likely the condense trap or pipe will be blocked

Could be many things, best bet is to get an RGI to call - make it their first call when the boiler is cold - so it's not a wasted visit.

yes, that is true, it could be bent electrodes, snapped heat exchanger burner bolts, blocked heat exchanger, fan fault, flue faults, gas valve fault, pump faults, etc. i do find icos to be particularly unreliable, personally.
I mention the condense trap because on the icos, they are very small and prone to blocking very easily although the chance of that is lower if they are cleaned thoroughly every annual service.
