boiler shuts down

hi there, can anyone shed any light on a problem that i am having with my old thorn olympic boiler. the pilot will stay on but the boiler will only run for a maximum of about 5 seconds then shuts down and takes the pilot with it, the pilot will relight and stay lit until i try to run the boiler again.. any help with this problem would be very welcome..
