Broken handle on uPVC window

by markcowell » Tue Oct 23, 2007 12:30 pm

Hi,

How do I remove a broken handle on a uPVC window? The lock part has broken and fallen out - but the handle is in the closed (and locked) position so I can only access one of the screws (top). Is there anyway around this?

Thanks

I've had to do this before.

Hopefully you can see the locking pin and are able to get at it from one or even better two sides.

Firstly if the lock has locked the pin in place your only choices are to cut the lock pin with a hacksaw blade or wrench the handle back enough to clear the lock housing and allow you to open the handle.

If its not locked then you should be able to use 2 small flat screwdrivers to pull the lock pin back mm at a time until its clear of the housing allowing you to open the handle.

Usually the lock pins are spring loaded and it will probably take a few attempts but it should work.
