can a staircase tread be changed? Kitchens, doors, rails, stud, tables, chairs, stair cases, garden furniture etc... Find answers and ask questions here!

I've just bought a house and the staircase is steep, the tread is extremely shallow, it doesn't even fit my foot (a UK size 3), can the treads be removed and deeper ones be fitted. hope someone can answer this as not sure it is even possible.
