    does any one know where i can buy a tool that will scrap the sandy mortar that has fallen to the base of a cavity wall and is bridging the damp couse resulting in damp patches on inside wall of cavity

    Probably just as easy to remove a few bricks at low level externally and remove it by hand. If its an older property it will probably be a lime based mortar. The mortar that collects around the wall ties is known as mortart snots.
