Ceiling rose

by kissing lips » Sat Jun 16, 2007 8:50 pm

Can someone help please. I removed an old strip light fitting to temporaily fit a ceiling rose. There were only two cables. Placed one neutral with the neutral from the rose to the neutral block Placed both reds into loop and the brown and other black into the live block. Light came on though I could not turn it off at switch. Swapped blacks, same result. Placed reds in live and black and brown in loop. Came on. Could not turn off at switch. Earths conected together at all times

Hi K-L, check rose loop in terms, there should be 3 in centre, 2 plus flex @ neutral end & 1 plus flex @ live end, 2 reds in loop-in, 1 blk to each flex end, even if blks wrong way round should still work thus,

Just had a thought, if you got it wrong and blew fuse/tripped mcb during attempts sw. terms may have welded together inside, it happens very easily,(& often). After connecting up as suggested, if light won't go off try disconnecting sw. (one wire) if light off change sw. Bi, Bi.
