Ceiling switch - 1way, 2 way..urmm help

by gikseiman » Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:30 pm

Hi all,

Thought swapping out a ceiling switch controlling a fan would be easy, but unfortunately turned out a little more complicated than I thought. Can't seem to quite work it out...!

Original switch: -

Has 2 neutrals, 2 lives and an earth (2 points marked as load live & load neutral which I'm assuming is the cable towards the fan)

New switch: -

Has 1 way, 2 way and common points ...

Where do I connect the 4 wires (ignoring earth as thats easy :p) to the other 3 points?? I'm well lost!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!!

Does the original switch not have supply Live and Neutral terminals too and is it a one way or two circuit (does another switch operate the fan)?

After a lot of head scratching..found out there was a so called intermediate switch which is really rare and hard to get hold off. Tried all the DIY stores and impossible!

Bodged tied the string back on..fixed! lol

Hi gikseiman,
for intermediates go to electrical wholesalers not DIY stores.
