    Chimney Cowl

    Postby billobach181 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:36 am

I have just had my chimney swept and a gas fire installed by a registered gas man, all good. But because of birds on the roof I want to fit a cowl on the chimney pot, the installer could not do it for me. The chinney is a standard brick with a 10'' [250mm] Pot. I asked BG's Tech Dept for guidance as I was told they have to approve it but al I got was "go and ask gas engineer".
I have looked on the internet at "Fluesystems .com" and "chimneycowl.co.uk" and there is quite a choice so my question is - Do I need a an "Antidowndraft Colt Top 2" type or will a simple Mesh with a a Rain Cap do?

The iternet price is almost Half the Building Merchants price.

    Regards
    Bill

If you currently have a pot - all you want is a bird guard (mesh type) don't add anything else unless you have a RGI to check the flue performance again.
