Chimney / Electric Fire

Post by Officer Down » Thu Aug 30, 2007 4:46 pm

Hey All,

I have an open fire place with surronding hearth. The fire place itself does not have a proper (stone) fire back, and just contained a wood back, so has consequently never been used since i moved in.

I plan on bricking up part of the fire opening, in order create a recess in fit one of those modern slim-line electric fires flush to the wall.

I do have a few questions:
Do i need to cap off the chimney?
Do i need to leave some ventalation?

... is there anything i should be aware of that perhaps i haven't thought of?

Many thanks for your help
