why would the bath cold water tap suddenly stop emitting water? Has the pipe under the bath burst?

i dont want to ask the obvious but do you have a flood of water,if no then you have answered your own question
were does the water come from is it a tank in the loft? check the tank is it full or empty? is the tap working could be the insert, tap head turning but not turning the insert
any work been carried out in the house regarding water?

If it had burst I think you'd know, as you'd hear alot of water and your house may be flooded (if a concrete floor).

It could be a blockage of some sort - the washer may have came away from the tap spindle. or the tap spindle may have snapped. Get a plumber or someone competent to strip tap down and investigate further.
