Connecting heaters to ring mains

Post by PaulTabiner » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:43 pm

I want several 1.2kw infra red heaters to heat a marquee which will be erected in our garden for special occasions. How many can I connect to a domestic ring main? I think I need 6 to heat the size of marquee that we have.

6 x 1.2kW = 7.2kW and total for ring is 7.36kW so clearly it can't be supplied from the existing ring. To use a 32A Ceeform plug and socket feeding a consumer unit which in turn feeds the heaters would be the likely answer.

The main problem is Part P and to feed more than 2 heaters is going to need some provision which it is likely because of LABC charges will not be a DIY job.
