Conventional Boiler Trips On and Off?

by _bob » Sun Sep 01, 2013 9:32 pm

Gravity Fed Hot Water & Heating System
Drayton Mid-Position Actuator MA1
Lifestyle LP722
Grundfos UBS 15-50 Selectric
Baxi Solo 3 PFL 80 Non-Condensing Conventional Boiler

I moved into my first house a 1978 semi-detached last year. I'm wondering whether I have a problem with the boiler. I have it set on the timer to come on in the morning for about 30 minutes. This seems to heat the water fine for the rest of the day. It only has to heat for two showers and some washing up. When the boiler is running it seems to stop after ten minutes and then try and fire up again. Then, after three or four times of trying it will succeed in firing up then stay on for five minutes before stopping again and then repeating the attempts to fire up several times before succeeding and so-on. Is this normal? I'm not sure if I should call someone out or not as the boiler is still heating the water fine. Am I setting the timer for too long?
Can anyone think what might be wrong with the boiler? many thanks in advance.

Would be worth checking if the system is full of water 1st & if a sealed system that the boiler pressure gauge is reading at least 1-1.5 bar.
