converting a garage

by tweedyk » Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:14 pm

hi there I am trying to find out which regulations I need to get etc when converting a portion of an attached garage into a room.
I am really trying to find out step by step what i need to do and the approximate costs of such things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Planning Permission first.
you will need to measure the walls and floor obviously.Go to your local builders merchants they should price it for you.

price for k18 plasterboard for walls and bags of drywall adhesive, thistle board finish plaster for ceiling and walls.

floor area you will need to raise the height to match inline with the house
so floor joists every 450mm centres I assume you will require 150mmx50mm joists .Kingspan or similar for the floor 50mm thick fitted inbetween joists
Tounge and groove flooring

insulation for ceiling 200mm thick rockwool or kingspan.plasterboard for ceiling

airbricks for ventilating the floor

bricks for blocking up garage door and price for window

there will be some things I have missed but that covers most of it.
