Converting fixed PVC window to opening

by heuf » Sun May 18, 2008 4:35 pm

Hello,

Please can someone tell me if it's possible to convert a fixed PVC window to one that opens.

I've had a quote for a replacement unit but it seems like a lot and would love for there to be an easier way!

Thanks

Hi,

It may be possible to change the fixed frame to an opening window, only if the current fixed frame has a dummy sash (looks like it opens, but doesn't). If it has, you would need to change the locks, hinges and possibly handles. Depending on how the dummy sash was made.

If there is no dummy sash then you will have to change the whole window. Don't settle for the first quote you have always shop around.
