Converting the loft

by Rastanking » Sun Jun 21, 2009 3:41 pm

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of converting the loft just for space, however are there special boards that I need, ie fire resistant and what are the implications of putting the boards over the insulation which currently has the lighting circuit running through it.

Would this be a fire hazard?

Thanks in advance

Rastanking,
Plasterboard on the ceiling below the loft will provide the fire resistance. Use T&G chipboard for the floor. You should not be encasing the wiring in loft insulation - if its ontop or underneath the insulation you should be OK provided you have not got any outside halogen floodlights fed by the lighting circuit. Take care not to pinch any cables running on top of the rafters.
end
