cooking smells from downstairs

Hello!

I live in a first floor converted georgian house, problem is my airing cupboard stinks of whatever my neighbours downstairs chooses to cook, more often than not its 50/50 between curry and really greasy lamb, if your interested.

I would like to stop smelling this but dont know how.

the airing cupboard has a large hot water tank sitting on bare floor boards.

your recomendations if you will, anything!
