Damp smell in wooden furniture

Fixed the damp in floor some time ago but musty smell penetrated the wooden (modern chipboard veneer) furniture and try what we may we cannot shift it. Fresheners, sprays, powders, pot pourri etc etc. all failed.
Room and furniture tested with damp meter so we know it is all clear now but ANY CLUES PLEASE? otherwise
the furniture has to be discarded which is a shame.
