Damp smell like wall paper paste.

Over the last year or so a smell similar to that of wall paper paste or fresh plaster has developed around the chimney breast in our sitting room. It is not there every day but seems more prominent in wet weather.
We have had our chimney stack repointed and checked for any damage and all seems to be OK. There is no sign of dampness on the walls or the floor. Any ideas anybody?

it could be water condensating in the flue causing the smell ,the mixture of soot and water moisture causes a smell and sometimes smells like that.
