Decking over grass

Hi, just a quick one. I am thinking of laying some decking about 6" off the floor by using drive in metal spikes and build the frame off these. This will be above the lawn but will i have to dig all the turf up or can i just weed killer the grass and place some weed covering over it?

Weed covering membrame can be pricey. I used good quality black bin liners and cheapest ballast i could find on the top. Unlike the membrane the bin liners will not allow the ground to breathe ( you don't want it to breathe...your killing it after all). Also if any location below the decking is visible the ballast looks better .
