    decking tiles

    Postby ruwankodikara » Tue May 01, 2007 9:34 pm

I have a small concrete patio which I want to deck on the cheap. Can I use cheap decking tiles from places like B&Q/Focus etc... to do this? The floor is pretty level but do I need to have it perfectly level for the decking to work? Also Can I just lay down decking tiles cut to shape and will this work OK or do I ned to fix them to the patio concrete floor or a timber frame?

You need to remmber that fixing, or just laying, decking of any kind to a surface which will be running with water when it rains, could forshorten the life of the timber considerable. It would be best to lay some 50 x 50 mm well treated timbers along the patio (so they run the same way as the slope off which the rain drains) and then fix decking slats to the top of them. The timbers should be no more than 400mm apart to stop the decking sagging. There is a link to some decking slats below.
