Dodgy tap

by eezablade » Sat May 03, 2008 11:09 pm

the hot/mixer tap in the kitchen won't stop running. If you push the handle (are they called handles) in, then it sort of clicks and stops. As soon as you let go, it starts again.
I have taken the handle thing off, but the bit which is screwed in to the tap won't budge (it is shaped like a hexagon I think). The whole mixer thing moves instead. I've sprayed with WD40 but it hasn't loosened it. Is it easy to replace the whole tap, and if so how?
Thanks (if this makes sense)

E,

ENSURE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO LOOSEN THE FITTING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND THAT YOU HAVE ISOLATED THE WATER!

INSTEAD OF APPLYING A CONSTANT LEVERAGE TO THE SPANNER GIVE THE SPANNER A SHARP BLOW WITH PALM OF HAND OR CAREFUL BLOW WITH HAMMER AND THIS WILL FREE THE FITTING (ALSO MAKE SURE SPANNER IS A GOOD FIT ON NUT).
