Does slate need to be waterproofed?

by Rastanking » Thu May 29, 2008 8:01 pm

Hello everyone,

This is probably a very silly question but I'm going to ask it anyway. I am going to lay slate tiles as flooring onto my bathroom, apart from the adhesive/grout that needs to be waterproof do I need to waterproof the slate and if so what?

Like I said I know this may sound daft but just to air on the side of caution.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Google "Slate Oil" and you see a number of products for slate, but slate nonporous.

You'll get great finish, but you need to use before you grout.

Hope this is of some help.
