door handle jammed -help!!

Can anyone help? The mechanism inside my door handled has failed with the door closed and I cannot open it at all. It is an internal door so no lock involved. I have removed the handle but then realised this does not help. How do I get the door open???

with a handle removed you will see a square bar,turn this with a pair of pliers and the door will open.
