Door latch won't pull all the way in.

I have a door that when you pull the handle to latch won't pull all the way in so when we shut the door we can't open it unless we give it a lot of welly or a sneaky card shoved beteen the door frame. Is there an easy fix so the catch will pull all the way in or is there another solution?

Cut a bit off the tongue or fit a new latch.
