downlighters 12v/35w not working

by ghs » Sun Jul 15, 2007 4:41 pm

Hi, I have two downlighters which are operated via a dimmer switch. When working they come on together. These were fitted about 3 yrs. ago and have hardly been used. Today i switched them on and all i get was a very faint glow when i turn the dimmer up and then nothing. I have tried a few times but now i get nothing. I have checked the bulbs and they are fine. Do i need to have both bulbs in or should it work with one . Any ideas will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

hi sparx, just checked the transformer and there is sign that it has got hot and the plastic has gone brown in colour and the circuit board is also charred. Why has this happened or is it common?. I will try another transformer. but should i be worried? . It is a jcc transformer and have sent them the pictures of the transformer asking for there comments.

Hi agn.,
check rating of trans. if it was intended for say 2 X 20W lamps & you have fitted 2 X 50W lamps then oops is the result,
trans. must match lamp load within small %, regards SPARX

The transformer states 20- 105VA on it. I have two bulbs which are 12V 35W.

Cheers
