Drilling Wall Plate - Is This Permitted and if Where to Drill Hole?

by aledlgriffith » Mon Jun 30, 2014 11:11 pm

I need to drill a wall plate that supports joist hangers and joist in my extension. I need to do this so I can run 22mm pipes to connect the repositioned boiler to the existing pipework for my central heating system. Is it permitted to make a hole in the wall plate and if so where would I drill the hole in the plate. Thanks

Hi, yes this is Ok. The best place to drill is mid-way between joists so that each joist stillhas the maximum bearing either side
