Hi,
What is the minimum distance allowable from the bottom of a 32mm hole in a 200x60 joist.
The joists to be drilled are 5ft.from the inside wall in a dormer house bathroom.

Drilling wooden joists
Hi,

you always drill centre of joist, so 200mm joist, the bottom of the hole should be 85mm from the bottom of the joist
Thanks for your prompt reply.I have got 5 of these 32mm holes in my joists with a 50mm to
bottom of hole.Is this ok.If not can you suggest any remedial work necessary.
If there is no major weight on the joists, then I wouldnt worry.BUT if your installing a bath on the joists then you need to brace the joists.Use the same size joist 200mm x 50mm by 1m in length then fix it to the original joist over the holes with 4 x 10mm thick bolts and dog washers.
