we changed the light fittings in our kitchen . when we got to the wires there was 3 cables with 3 wires coming out each of the cables . Every cable had one red ,one black and one green. we put together all the reds(3) all the black(3) and all the green(3). then we switched on the light and everything was ok but when we switched the switch off the mains switch went off, can you help me with a solution?

In any normal system in UK there will be as you say three cables.
1) Feeds power to ceiling rose.
2) Links power to next ceiling rose.
3) Links ceiling rose to switch.
Cables 1) and 2) will link colour to colour but cable 3) should have a red sleeve on the black cable and that black goes to the lamp.
The ceiling rose has 4 connections. One normally a clamp is earth then the double will have sleeved black and brown to lamp. Centre has all reds (these to not connect to lamp). and other side has the two remaining blacks and the blue wire.

The way you have wired will result in a direct short when lights are switched on and no way to switch them off.

In the projects section there are diagrams showing how to connect.
