Extend our drive

We currently have a tarmac drive on concrete base which we want to extend and have the whole drive covered with slate chippings. I have dug out the new part and it has been filled with hardcore, we are now planning to just remove the old tarmac and lay down the slate chippings. Will this be OK ?
