Finish for Walnut

by WoodBodger » Sun Feb 17, 2008 3:57 pm

Hi,
I'm new here so please bear with me.
I have glued up some walnut boards to make a small table, 1200 x 400 mm. I want the final finish to be high gloss.
I have sanded it down and removed almost all the machining marks, but there are still some left, and about 1 mm deep, although not many. There are also small knot holes and insect holes, none more than 2mm across or 4 mm deep.
I have been told to use a liquid sanding sealer first before applying the finish - I have some Finneys 'Finpol Extra Hard French Polish' - .
My question is will a liquid sealer do the job? or could someone suggest a better way .
