Fireplace Tiles (for inside the fireplace)

    Postby pbutler100 » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:02 pm

    Hi All

We have decided to get a multi-fuel burner for our house

I have knocked out the hole that was blocked up and have cleared the area

We have seen some black slate mosaic tiles to go inside the fireplace (on the sides and rear)

The guy at the shop suggested we need a flexible adhesive because of the heat, so I am looking for some advice on the matter, my questions are :-

What do I need to render the bricks to make a flat surface, but is fire-proof ?

Any recommended flexible and fire-proof adhesive to stick the tiles on ?

Any recommended grout for the tiles ?

We have bought some black slate paving slabs to make as an Hearth, so any advice on which adhesive and grout to you for that also ?

Please excuse my wording or lack of understanding as I am new to this DIY stuff (but will have help doing it)

    Thanks in advance

    pbutler100,
Use a cement based adhesive and stick the slates direct to the bricks. Also use a cementious grout for the the walls and hearth.
    end
