Fitting Bath Mixer Taps and is the Gasket Essential?

by Sophie'smum » Fri Dec 30, 2016 2:24 pm

We have a new bath/tap fix in progress. The mixer taps with shower attachment are Bristan & came with a fat black gasket to cushion/seal to the bath. Trouble is it is not a precise fit to the body profile, so after a while there will be a build up of limescale around it. It is also too thick to squash down tight & so the tap is seen to be raised a few mm & the black seen.
Due to the water from above when the shower is on plus the fallout from cleaning around I can see that a seal is needed.
Can we dispense with the thick black ugly one & use a good bead of mould inhibiting silicon instead?

Many thanks
