Fitting bathroom units over vinyl flooring

I am totally refurbishing the bathroom. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to lay sheet vinyl flooring first and then fit the wash basin and wc over the top. I would like to obtain as waterproof a floor as possible, with the eges of the flooring sealed under the wall tiles. I feel there should be a suitable vinyl flooring available, although I suspect cushion vinyl would not be suitable.
