Floor joist spacing

by grb1973 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:02 pm

Hi,
I'm currently converting a garage into a dining room and would like to try and do some of the work myself. One bit of help I need is how far apart do I hang the floor joists as I am raising the level of the floor, and what is the recommended size of joist I should use. Also, what is the best way to attach the joists to the wall, is it by joist hangers?

You need building regulation permission for this as you are making a structuralk alteration and turning a garage into living space. This will affect the insulation qualities of the property and possible the fire regs. Please contact the building control section of your localk council who will advise you further. If you make alterations to your propoerty without the correct consents your home insurance can be affected and your resale ability, without the correct certificates, can be greatly affected.
