floor tile adhesive

Is there any reason why you can't stick porcelain floor tiles down with normal sand and cement mix.Need to lay appox 45m2 and proper tile adhesive will probably cost more than tiles.The base is a concrete floor,so a cheaper alternative to porceline tile adhesive would be appreciated.

You cannot guarentee a good ahdesion with sand and cement because the tiles soak up the moisture at different rates where tile adhjsive is a different setting process.
