French doors into a load bearing wall - which lintel!!??

HELP!!! I am in the planning stage of installing french doors inbetween my lounge/dining rooms, i've planned everything so far apart from the important thing - which size/strength of lintel i should install...
The wall is a breeze block single skin wall which is two stories high (so there with be approx 3m of wall above the new lintel) the opening will be 1900 wide with lintel overlapping 150mm each side...
How do i work out which lintel will meet modern regs? thank you in advance if you help me out cheers mark (salisbury, wilts)

Go for CATNIC steel lintol standard size is 2400mm long 150mm deep x 100mm wide.

the technical data for the catnic lintol load is available at the catnic website.I have never had any problems using CATNIC and the Building inspector has always passed the lintol,As you are at planning stage specifying the lintol and the load bearing,you do not require a structural engineer,an architect will confirm the data,And submit the plans for approval for the building inspector to confirm.

You need to ascertain the amount of load being transmitted down the wall. Does the wall support floor joists and roof load from struts?

This is something that a structural engineer could calculate or you could use the technical departments of Catnic or IG or Keystone who are all lintel manufacturers.

I am a little surprised by Welsh brickies comments that a building inspector usually accepts a Catnic because usually, in my experience, they tend to request calculations.

Alternatively you could approach a steel fabricator because they often carry there own structural engineer's who can size a steel beam and then supply and fix if required.
