Frustrated with a dimmer switch.

by Spanner » Sun Oct 28, 2007 8:10 pm

Just fitted a dimmer switch in my dining room which did work fine until I fitted a fancy new pendant ceiling light with halogen bulbs. My dimmer switch no longer works. After fitting the ceiling light and switching the power back on for the first time, the electric did trip out. Would this have damaged the dimmer switch?
Are dimmer switches compatible with all types of lights?

Hi If you got wiring wrong and put sw across L&N it poss. did damage sw. no they are not all compatible, try fitting normal sw & get light working, if ok then get dimmer rated for inductive load @ 50% higher than wattage total of lamps,
