Gap between tiles and bath causes leak

Post by grahamgall » Fri Jan 11, 2008 6:27 pm

Due to age the sealant between the tile and bath has deteriorated and now I have a leak. Is there a good filler that can plug this gap. The gap between the tiles and bath, in some areas, is about 10mm.

Thanks

Graham

Remove all the old sealant and I mean ALL. You can't put new silicone on top of old - it won't stick to itself. 10mm is too large a gap for silicone on it's own. No wonder it's failed. Is it 10mm all round the bath? If so I think I'd try and reduce it by adjusting postion of the bath slightly. Is that possible? If not then use stacks of gripfill to plug the gap and then reseal with new silicone over the top.

Cheers

I have a similar prob, but with a shower tray, it is 5mm away from the wall tiles.. I am wondering if using this method would work for me ? Thanx

Without seeing it I'd say yes.
