    Gaps in laminate floor

    Postby lynda » Thu May 01, 2008 5:06 pm

Could someone please advise on a filler we can use to fill in a gap in our laminate floor, we cannot butt them up from the edges as the previous owner of our house has built fitted wardrobes over the floor edges nearest to the gap.

Have tried some type of filler (cannot remember which) but it gives a powdery matt finish and looks too obvious.

    Many thanks

Laminate floors should always be left with a gap around the edge. It is to allow for expansion and contraction of the flooring. If the gap is filled, when it gets warm, the laminate will buckle and bulge. Conversely, when it cools, a crack will occur in your filler.

A special beading needs to be fitted around the perimeter of the flooring to cover the expansion gap. This is available from anyone who sells the laminate.
