Gas cooker safety distances

Post by ymerej » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:56 am

Does anyone know the legal distance that a gas cooker has to be from a side wall? In this case I am hoping to install a free standing gas cooker into what was an old stone fire place with stone sides up to a height of 760cm above the cooker hob, where there is a stone lintle. Is there a regulatory distance that the gas hob itself has to be from the side wall. This wall extends out from the back wall by about 45 cm and is about 2/3 of the depth of the cooker? Your help would be appreciated ....

When the cooker manufacturers instructions do not give clear installation guidance, then the recommended clearances are 20mm gap around the body of the cooker and 150mm gap above the hob, to the side walls.
