Geotextile membrane

Can I use breathable roofing underlay as a geotextile membrane laid on the ground under pebbles

Most of these textiles are easily damaged by ultraviolet, to the point where most of them no longer do their job by the time the building is complete.
Buy a fabric purpose made for the job.
